On 16 May 2025, the 19th session of the XMUM Humanities Forum was successfully held by the Department of Chinese Studies, focusing on the topic “Chinese Civilization and the Tiaoshan Salt Lake”.
The event featured Prof. Li Angang, a renowned scholar in Chinese classical literature, Taoist philosophy, and Journey to the West studies, as the keynote speaker. Prof. Li Angang examined the topic through the philosophy of the “unity of heaven and humanity”, emphasizing the cultural symbolism of filial piety embodied by Tiaoshan as well as the economic and cultural significance of the salt lake. His presentation offered a comprehensive overview of the development of Chinese civilization and the historical importance of the Tiaoshan Salt Lake.
The Humanities Forum is a well-established lecture series organized by the Department of Chinese Studies, aimed at encouraging students to engage with humanities disciplines and supporting their holistic development and comprehensive skills.
