Over 200 XMUM students of different races and nationalities gathered together to celebrate Raya Aidilfitri on Wednesday, 12 June 2019.

Organized by Student Council and Student Affairs Office, this event aimed to “give the university community a chance to celebrate Raya Aidilfitri together, and to show international students show this festival is celebrated in Malaysia,” according to second-year student Peng Eu Jing, one of the event organizers. 

The celebration began with energetic performances such as singing and diablo tricks, which left the crowd in awe. Free food - mainly traditional Raya snacks - and beverages were provided at the venue. Enticing games were also prepared so that everyone could have fun.

This event put a smile on every participant’s face, including many international students being far from their home. 

“This is my first time joining this kind of event and the food here is exquisite. It’s nice to experience and learn the culture here. Surely I would like to join (this event) again next time,” commented Nsamba Enos, a first-year student from Zambia. 

“Yeah, I celebrate Eid Mubarak (Hari Raya) at my hometown too. We would also play a lot of games. Joining this event makes me feel like home because I could feel the vibe, and it’s cool for making new friends,” said Bagashar Kenges from Kazakhstan.
